Good things grow at The Grove. Whether you’re a freelancer looking to connect with great clients, a social entrepreneur looking to solve water access issues, or an enterprise launching your Dallas branch, you’ll be joining a community with strong values, a commitment to social impact, and a history of making good things happen in our cities.
The original Grove launched in New Haven, CT in 2010. Ken Janke and Slate Ballard opened the first location after seeing the need for space that would allow social impact initiatives to collaborate with entrepreneurs for positive cultural impact and intentional economic development. Starting with just 3 members in a boarded up downtown storefront, they’ve since grown to house over 250 businesses and organizations in their own 25,000sf space. Since opening, they have helped transform downtown New Haven by launching new businesses and initiatives, been written up in Fast Company, and assisted the governor’s office in planting three innovation centers around the state.
The Grove, Dallas was born from the friendship and partnership of Grove founder, Ken Janke, long-time community developer, Justin Nygren, and Ken’s friend and advisor, Matt Smith. Justin’s background in community development and the coworking movement, and Matt’s background in business development opened the door for Ken to bring The Grove concept to Dallas and help lead the conversation around uniting the social impact community for greater good in the city through innovation, collaboration and resource sharing. After seeing a need for coworking in the Downtown Dallas area, and the potential that lay ahead in The Historic West End district, the 501 Elm location was opened in late 2013 with 6 members and 3600sf. The Grove, Dallas is now a strategic partner with the United Way’s GroundFloor program, the North Texas home of Unreasonable Institute’s Labs for social enterprises, and home to over 100 businesses and organizations with a footprint close to 8,000sf. We are developing a seed fund for social impact organizations and companies within our membership community, and currently working with impact investors to develop an accelerator dedicated to the needs of for-profit/for-good social enterprises to have access to credible investors and 3-6 months of dedicated mentoring and business development. The Grove, Dallas is a nexus for North Texas entrepreneurs and change-agents to ideate, collaborate and launch their initiatives and businesses. Want to join us?
